On summer solstice 1999, I participated in Native American Pipe Ceremony for my first time. I went to this sacred ceremony with no expectations, because I did not know what to expect. I went very much as in the wonderment of a child. This sacred ceremony was conducted at the Medicine Wheel in The Garden of The Gods. There were ten of us there that night in circle. The Pipe Carrier presented a teaching primarily for those of us who were new to Pipe Ceremony. Next, the Pipe Carrier filled the Pipe with tobacco, lit the Pipe and began the ceremony - - honoring Mother Earth, Father Sky, the four directions, and the child within. And then, the Pipe began being passed to each person in the circle. Each person in turn made her/his prayer, and the prayers ascended to Great Spirit upon the smoke from the Pipe.

Slowly the Pipe made Its way around the circle and was eventually passed to me. When I placed my hands upon the Pipe, I was immediately engulfed in a light, playful energy that at the same time was very old and VERY WISE. And I asked, "Who is with me?" The reply still rings within my ears and my heart to this day, "We are The Spirit of the Healing Waters and Sacred Springs. We want to tell Our medicine stories. And We want you to write them." It seemed as though I sat with the Pipe for a long time that night before passing the Pipe on to the next person in the circle - - sitting there as in the wonderment of a child and finally agreeing to accept this sacred mission.

The next morning I began; and for the next five months, day and night, I gathered the medicine stories. I learned how and why these Healing Waters and Sacred Springs are indeed Living Waters. On November 29, 1999, the medicine stories were released in book form for all those who seek the health and wholeness that these Living Waters can provide.
